Take a trip to Weymouth Harbour & Marina

Renowned for its fishing in the working port, Weymouth Harbour and Marina is a lovely place to visit for idyllic scenery. Picture this: you’re sitting at a restaurant on Custom House Quay, watching all of the yachts and sailing boats come in and out of the harbour, and seeing the splendor of the lifting bascule Town Bridge. Sounds great? That’s not all you can witness; you could do some water sports, boat trips or have a pre-booked picnic. And, we can help you organise it all.

How about a Jet Ski around the bay on Monday, a boat trip around Portland on Tuesday, an evening meal at Weymouth’s best restaurant on Wednesday, and a day on Redcliff Beach Thursday with your pre-booked picnic? That’s just a taster of what’s available, and we can make it work for you.

It’s so great, it’s had a lot of iconic events here

Did you know that Weymouth hosted the Sailing Olympics in 2012? The Olympic Village was built in Portland to house the contestants. People travelled for miles to sit and watch the events at The Nothe, which provided the perfect viewing point, and still does!

Weymouth is also a movie star; featuring in Dunkirk with Tom Hardy, filmed on Custom House Quay. World War Z, featuring Brad Pitt, was filmed at Lulworth Cove and many other films. Eastenders preferred to film in Weymouth rather than Spain, and the Mitchells arrived via Bowleaze (an impossible route), with the late Dame Barbara Windsor who used to holiday in Weymouth as a child.

The history of Dorset and Weymouth

There’s lots of fantastic history about the area, and that’s what makes it into the incredible holiday destination that it is today. So, how was it developed into the popular seaside resort that it is today? What’s the history behind it?

It was developed as a popular seaside resort at the end of the 18th-century promoted by King George III where Sea Bathing was practised in the 1770’s. King George III can be seen from the beach, and other focal areas, riding on a large white horse carved with chalk onto the hills in Osmington. Since then Weymouth has grown and developed into the famous seaside town in Dorset, South West England.
